The President of the Faculty of Education Students’ Association (ESAN) at Ahmadu Bello University, Abubakar Abubakar Sadiq, has been cleared of financial misconduct allegations following a comprehensive investigation.

The inquiry, jointly conducted by the ESRA Committee and the Deanery Committee, found that Sadiq appropriately utilized project funds for the renovation of the faculty’s deteriorated toilet facilities. The only procedural lapse identified was his failure to formally notify the Executive and Senate arms of ESAN before initiating the project, which is an obligation stipulated in the association’s constitution.

The verdict, signed by Sen. Uthman Umar on July 8, 2025, mandates Sadiq to issue a formal apology to the Executive and Senate for bypassing protocol. Additionally, the students who brought forward the allegations are required to apologize to both President Sadiq and the Deanery for making unsubstantiated claims.

“President Abubakar Sadiq is hereby declared innocent of the allegations of financial misconduct,” the verdict reads. With this development, President Sadiq has been cleared to fully resume his duties as Executive President of ESAN. The resolution brings closure to the controversy that had cast a shadow over student leadership in the Faculty of Education.

The news has been met with relief by Sadiq’s supporters and is seen as a fresh opportunity for focused and effective student governance. Students can now look forward to renewed leadership efforts aimed at advancing the interests of the faculty.
