ABU Zaria Among Top Global Winners at Huawei ICT Competition

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has won the Grand Prize in the Innovation Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Global Final.

Team ABU 2026 was one of four universities worldwide to win the top prize in Innovation. The others are Wuhan University of Technology, Fujian Normal University from China, and the National University of Singapore.

ABU also won prizes across other tracks: the ABU Cloud Team took First Prize, the ABU Student Network Track team won the Grand Prize, and the ABU Student Computing Track team secured Second Prize.

The final was held on June 5, 2026, in Shenzhen, China. Eighteen teams from eight countries won Grand Prizes. Huawei said more than 220,000 students from 2,000 universities in over 100 countries took part.

Nigeria won two Grand Prizes this year. ABU won in Innovation. Another Nigerian team won the Grand Prize in the Practice Competition – Network Track.

The Innovation Track tests students on creativity and how well their tech solutions solve real problems.

Ahmadu Bello University is Huawei’s first Advanced ICT Academy Support Centre globally.
