The National Association of Social Sciences Students (NASSS) has organized a three-day virtual workshop to equip students with practical knowledge of social sciences research and improve their ability to develop sound academic projects.

The workshop, themed “Research Without Borders: A Practical Guide to Social Sciences Research,” was held from October 16 to 18, 2026, via Google Meet.

The sessions covered four core areas: research ideation and problem identification, literature review and theoretical framework, research methodology, and data presentation, analysis and interpretation.

The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Qaribu Yahya Nasidi, Aliyu Bello Jushi, Abubakar Ibrahim, and Dr. Idris Saminu.

Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, NASSS President, Abubakar Basiru, said the workshop was organized to address the difficulties students face in carrying out their final-year projects.

“I realised that students face difficulties in carrying out their final-year projects. This, therefore, is the driving force behind the workshop, and the aim is to equip students with the ABC of Social Sciences Research in order to carry out their projects with confidence and develop sound research projects,” he said.

He added that the NASSS Workshop and Orientation Series will continue until the end of the next academic session.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the workshop.

Issah Yusuf Mosadiolorun, a 300-level Sociology student, described the sessions as helpful and insightful, saying they improved his understanding of proper research procedures.

Similarly, Abel Japhet, a 400-level Mass Communication student, said the workshop helped him understand the differences between participant, non-participant, covert and overt observation methods.

Fauziyat Abbas Tajudeen, a 300-level Mass Communication student, commended the facilitators' engagement with participants and said she intends to apply the knowledge gained in research methodology to her academic work.

The initiative forms part of NASSS's efforts to promote academic excellence and equip students with practical research skills.
