Professor Cosmos I. Eze, a renowned professor of Strategic and Health Communication of the department of Mass Communication, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has called on the Nigerian Army to design a development communication manual for its operations. He made the recommendation at the Directorate of Army Public Relations/Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information conference, where Professor Eze presented a paper titled "Enhancing Public Engagement and Awareness: The Role of Development Communication in Promoting Nigerian Army."
According to Professor Eze, the manual would play a crucial role in addressing the prevailing asymmetric security challenges facing the nation. He emphasized that effective communication is key to fostering a better understanding of the Army's activities and building trust with the communities it serves.
In his words, "in view of the prevailing asymmetric security challenges bedeviling the nation, this topic (Enhancing public engagement and awareness through development communication in promoting Nigerian army and it's operations) is indeed invaluable.
He further explained that, by developing a comprehensive communication manual, the Nigerian Army can enhance its public engagement and awareness efforts, ultimately contributing to a more secure and stable society. Highlighting the importance of sustained public engagement to create awareness about the Army's activities, particularly during non-kinetic operations, Prof Eze distinguished that the development communication especially engagement with the community is an indispensable and essential condition to ensuring smooth operation of the Nigerian Army and at large development of the nation at large.
The Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information, Lt. Col A Y Ngulde appreciated Professor Cosmos I. Eze for his presentation. He described Professor Eze as a friend of the school who had immensely contributed to the development of the school in terms of training. He noted that Professor Eze's expertise and wealth of knowledge had been a tremendous asset to the students and faculty of the school. The Commandant expressed gratitude to Professor Eze for his unwavering support and contributions to the institution, and looked forward to continuing the partnership with him in the years to come
