Experts and Students Highlight Agriculture’s Potential at ABU Zaria Pre-Convocation Lecture

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria held a pre-convocation lecture on the topic “Agriculture and Food Security: A path way to Economic Growth and Resilience in Nigeria” which took place on January 24, 2025, at around 10am at the Abdullahi Mahadu Conference Centre, ABU main campus.

The lecture which was chaired by the former governor of Ogun state, Chief Segun Osaba, CON, explored Agriculture and food security. The keynote address delivered by His Excellency Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, CON, former Governor of Bauchi State, acknowledged the critical role agriculture plays in Nigeria’s economy “Agriculture has been the backbone of Nigeria’s economy and has the potential to create opportunities for everyone.”

“Nigerians need to prioritize agriculture for us to achieve food security. Entrepreneurship in agriculture plays a crucial role in rural development and national stability.” He further stated.

The lecture was an impactful one. As attendees like Zulfat Olawale, a 400-level student of Arts and Social Sciences Education shared “Agriculture is not just about farming; it’s about entrepreneurship. She also added that becoming an entrepreneur is the best step you can take as a student. “Don’t wait for a white-collar job after graduation.” She advises.

The turnout for the pre-convocation lecture was very impressive, with attendance from high-profile individuals, students, academic staff, and non-academic staff from various faculties and departments.
