Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria held its 44th convocation ceremony on January 26th, 2025 at the Mamman Katangora square ABU main campus Zaria.

In attendance were the Chancellor, Chief Alfred Nnaemeka; the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Professor Kabiru Bala; the Commissioner of Education, representing Governor Uba Sani; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.

The ceremony marked the celebration and conferment of diplomas, degrees, postgraduate certificates, and even honorary degrees to Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh, and to Ngozi Okonjo Iweala who was unavoidably absent.

The turnout for the ceremony was impressive, as parents, well-wishers, and graduates donned their graduation gowns in numbers to celebrate this significant moment. Recounting the hurdles faced before achieving this milestone, Agbu Dorcas, a graduate shared “I struggled to adapt and blend with people, but it helped me develop tolerance and communication skills. Also, I worked hard to achieve good grades, and I'm grateful for God's guidance."

She went on to encourage them to trust in God and persevere. "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning," she said. The same motivation that drove you in your first year should keep you going until the end, " she finally added.

The 44th convocation ceremony celebrates graduates of the 2023/2024 academic session, their resilience, and determination to achieve their degree despite the discontinuity they faced in their educational journey due to incessant academic strikes and the Covid pandemic.
