“Journalism Goes Beyond the Classroom” - UK Umar Tells ACP Members



Media strategist UK Umar has urged student journalists at Ahmadu Bello University to embrace continuous learning and real-world exposure if they want to succeed in the journalism profession.

Speaking after receiving an award from the ABU Campus Press on October 26, Umar emphasized that the newsroom environment demands practical skills and adaptability, noting that many practices in the field differ from classroom theories.

"Chances are high that once you leave university and step into a media house, you will relearn almost everything. Read, learn, and stay open minded if you want to succeed in this profession." He advised. 

Umar went further to commended the ACP for its dedication to professional media practice at the student level and assured them of mentorship and support alongside his colleagues.

He also accepted an award on behalf of media analyst Haruna Abdullahi (Harouspice), who sent his regards to the organization, during a visit led by the ACP President Abdusalam Abdullahi led the visit, accompanied by Hajara Abdullahi and Amina Ismaila.

The mission of the Club is to protect the interest of Ahmadu Bello University by promoting the importance of campus journalism, serve as an avenue for prospective journalist to practice journalism, protect the interests of members and those of the public and always hold on to intellectualism as the core idea of studentship through professional journalistic practice.
