ABU Holds Matriculation, Declares Wednesday Lecture Free Day For Fresh Undergraduate Students

The management of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has today matriculated a total number of 11,572 students for 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic session as part of the annual rituals to officially induct the fresh undergraduate students into the university system. The matriculation ceremony took place at Mamman Kontagora Square in the main campus of the University

 Declaring the ceremony open, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala ably represented by the deputy vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Ahmed Doko Ibrahim congratulated the candidates for scaling through the rigorous processes in gaining admission into the prestigious University in the Sub-Saharan-African. He said about 22,930 candidates applied, but only 11,572 gained admission; out of which 8,547 were UTME candidates.

The candidates were presented to the university management by the respective Deans of the 17 Faculties in the university, after which the Registrar, Mallam Rabiu Samaila conducted the University’s oath of matriculation on the candidates, which transformed them into the Students of the University and bound with the university laws and regulations.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor admonished the fresh undergraduate students to shun every form of social vices, such as examination malpractice, cultism, and crimes of any sort.

“I know today is an exciting day and great experience for you and your parents. This is the beginning of your opportunity to succeed in life, never take it for granted. Stay away from anything that will cost your admission or send you out of this environment without achieving your primary aim of being here. 

“Always respect the laws of the University by constantly remembering the oath you've taken. ABU is anxious to produce students with critical thinking that could bring about unique creativity.”

He further advised the students to live within the economic ability of their parents, and be security conscious at any time.

He said, “Manage the little resources provided by your parents, and your safety first in whatever you do and wherever you go.”

Other Principal Officers in attendance include: Malam Rabiu Samaila, Registrar; Abdulhameed L.Gambo, Ag. University Librarian; Mallam Mohammed Bello Aminu, Bursar; among others.

Some of the matriculated students who spoke to ABU Campus Press, Maryam Bello, Sulaiman Abubakar, Ayo Adebola Elizabeth, Danjuma Mahadi, and others expressed their joy for the great opportunity they have to study in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while promised to abide by the university rules.

Recall that the university management had earlier fixed a date for the matriculation ceremony which was later postponed to today due to undisclosed circumstances beyond the management’s control.

In the same vein, the university management has also declared Wednesday, the 27th March,2024 a lecture free day to enable the fresh undergraduate students participate in the central orientation programme of the institution.
