It Is Better To Suffer Now And Enjoy Later Than To Enjoy Now And Suffer Later -- Dr. Musa Al-Hassan

By Aliyu Baba Mohammed

A veteran Broadcaster, Lecturer, Media Manager, and Consultant, Dr. Musa Al-hassan has encouraged the Members of ABU Campus Press and the students of Ahmadu Bello University generally to use their current fresh brains and body renewable energies to struggle today for a better tomorrow; instead of seeking ephemeral pleasure or gratification that will slip them into long-lasting suffering in no distant future.

Dr. Musa Al-hassan who was the guest lecturer stated this today during a one-day Broadcasting Workshop organized by the Ahmadu Bello University Campus Press (ACP), Department of Mass Communication at the New Lecture Hall One (NLH1) in the faculty of Social Sciences, ABU, Zaria.

He said this is not the right time for students to engage in a romantic relationship(s) with the opposite sex as such would hinder them from thinking productively, especially in the aspects of academics where they are supposed to do well from a brighter future.

“If you engage in unnecessary things, such as boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, you would not think well for your future. And the right time for you to sacrifice your pleasure for a better future is now.

“Spare a lot of time to equip yourself with the basic necessities of broadcasting journalism, like news casting/programmes presentation skills, voice-over and reporting skills, audio/video digital editing, learning languages, aim high, and above all, present yourself confidently like someone who knows everything.”

He further advised the student journalists never to rely solely on classroom lectures as those are not enough for them to compete favourably in the labour market.

He said, “The secret to success is hard-working, mentoring, sacrifice, and perseverance.”

He added that Broadcasting is the fastest-growing field of journalism, as government and private broadcast media stations are being established across the nooks and crannies of not only Nigeria but the world in general.

Part of the activities at the workshop were the practical news presentation by Abdullahi Aliyu Ibrahim and the correspondent report by Fatima Zakari.

Earlier, the secretary of the club, Comrade Ibrahim Abdulsalam Olasunkanmi gave the opening remark, where he urged the participants to be attentive to tap from the ocean of knowledge of the facilitator. In the same vein, the president of the club,  Comrade Aliyu Baba Mohammed gave the closing remark. He thanked the Facilitator and the Participants for the fruitful engagement during the workshop. While promising more Journalistic engagements as the core mandate of the club.
