ABU Nursing and Midwifery Inducts 2023/2024 Graduates into Professional Practice

The Department of Nursing and Midwifery, of the Allied Health Sciences faculty at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, held their 5th induction and oath-taking ceremony for the undergraduate nursing students on January 8, 2024. The event which took place at the Mamman Kontangora Square ABU main campus, celebrated the new graduates of the 2023/2024 academic year.

The event was graced by notable personalities like the vice chancellor of ABU, professor Kabiru Bala, who congratulated the students and gave them words of encouragement for their future endeavors. The Dean of the faculty, Dr D. K. Sani also congratulated the students and noted the that faculty is leading in producing the highest number of competent nurses in the country, as the ABU nursing graduates are being sorted after round the globe. 

Dr D. k. Sani further highlighted the faculty’s many achievements, stating that the department has so far produced 211 first class students, and also produced 128 and 58 second class upper and second class lower students respectively, and with just 53 students in the third class bracket.

The dean recognized the 10 first class graduates of the 2023/2024 academic session and presented them with awards of excellence. Also, Abdullahi Halima Idris and Kayode Oluwatobi Esther were recognized as the best graduating students of the session.

Nurse Mohammad Usman Adamu, a recent graduate, expressed his excitement about his induction, stating, "I want to impact my knowledge and help my society. I also plan to establish a nursing home in the future." 

Fellow inductee Nurse Friday O. Angela shared her gratitude for graduating, saying, "I aim to be a great nurse who provides utmost care and brings positive change to the healthcare system. In five years, I see myself transforming the nation and going global."

Mr. Yumusa Haruna, a proud parent, described the event as aspecial moment for his son, who spent seven years at the university, calling it a notable achievement for both their family and society.

While rounding up the event Alhassan Ndagi, registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, represented by Mrs. Daughter Sample, wrapped up the event by urging graduates to excel in their community roles and embrace feedback for skill improvement. He reminded them to obtain their temporary licenses and induction certificates, paving the way for permanent licenses after their internships.
