ABU Cultural Carnival in Hausa Royal Grandeur

By Abdussamad Yahya Sufi

The 2025 ABU-SRC Cultural Carnival ended on Sunday, August 17 at Mamman Kontagora Square in a colorful display of Hausa royal tradition.

In Hausa land, the king is the heart of every festival. He sits on his throne while tribes display their heritage and pay homage. This was portrayed at ABU during the carnival.

On the first day, Saturday, August 16, the SRC King joined the rally by the roadside and watched the durbar parades of Nigerian student communities.

By Sunday, he took his place at Kontagora Square in a palace-like setting decorated with Hausa cultural symbols. Calm and elegant, he received courtesies from other Nigerian tribes, just as in a traditional durbar.

The carnival brought together Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, Igbo, Tiv, and many others. Each performed in colorful attire, and the arena filled with music, dance and pageantry.

ABU proved to be a home for all, where no tribe is left out. The king's regal aura, the palatial setting, and the heritage of diverse cultures made the event historical.
