| Dignitaries inspect student-made products at ABU SESA exhibition |
The Science Education Students’ Association, SESA, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has concluded its 2025/2026 Skill Acquisition Exhibition, showcasing products developed by students during the association’s training programme.
The exhibition was held at the Yusuf Bala Usman Assembly Hall under the theme, “Skills for Sustainability: Building Capacity for Tomorrow.” It was organized by the SESA executive led by President, Madinatu Abubakar, to equip students with practical and entrepreneurial skills beyond classroom learning.
Students displayed works from various training sessions including resin art such as keyholders, earrings and bookmarks, graphic design, haircutting, cinematography, and the production of liquid soap, air fresheners and petroleum jelly.

Dignitaries at the event included the Director of the Centre for Girls Education; the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration; the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Bunkure, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Suleiman Balarabe; Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, represented by Prof. Aliyu; the Dean of Student Affairs; the Director of the University Advancement Directorate; and Hon. Mahmud Sadis Baba, popularly known as Al'ajabin Zazzau.

Delivering the keynote address on “Empowering the Next Generation Through Skills Development: A Pathway to Sustainable Growth,” Dr. Y. F. Zakariya emphasized the role of skill acquisition in preparing young people for future opportunities.
Guest speaker, Prof. Binta Abdulkarim, speaking on “Building a Sustainable Future Through Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Skills Acquisition,” urged students to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship for personal and national development. She also called for an end to cultural stereotypes that discourage either gender from learning trades, noting that “skill acquisition has no gender.”

The event ended with a tour of exhibition stands where guests inspected student products and commended participants for creativity and commitment to self-development.
SESA said the exhibition shows its commitment to promoting entrepreneurship, practical learning and sustainable development among students, and preparing them with skills relevant beyond university education.
