The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has assured beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) that the disbursement of outstanding monthly upkeep allowances will resume between Monday, July 13 and Friday, July 17, 2026.

The assurance was given by the NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babtee Babatunde, in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Saturday, July 11, 2026, where he announced the completion of the upgrade of NELFUND's payment platform.

According to him, the technical issues responsible for the delay in disbursement have been resolved, and payment of students' upkeep allowances is expected to commence between Monday and Friday next week.

"I am pleased to finally assure all Nigerian students that the ongoing upgrade of the NELFUND payment platform has been completed. With this development, the disbursement of students' upkeep allowances will commence between Monday and Friday next week. Beneficiaries will receive all outstanding payments, covering every month they are owed up to the present," the statement read.

The announcement comes after months of concern among beneficiaries over the delay in the payment of monthly upkeep allowances. Students have not received their stipends since April, leaving payments for May, June and July outstanding.

The prolonged delay has caused reactions from students across public tertiary institutions, many of whom depend on the monthly allowance to meet basic living expenses such as feeding, transportation, accommodation and the purchase of academic materials.

The NANS President also appreciated students for their patience and understanding throughout the delay, noting that the association would continue to engage relevant stakeholders to ensure prompt and seamless disbursement of students' entitlements.

As of the time of this report, NELFUND had not issued a separate official statement confirming the payment schedule announced by the NANS President. Students are, however, expected to monitor official communication channels for further updates.
